"If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time."
" What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."
~James 2:14-17
....So, to continue my discourse from yesterday; here are a few more reasons I need to leave the world of social media and how I plan to spend my time. Some of my solutions are more broad, I am still looking for ways to accomplish these goals.

5).I just finished a wonderful book called "The
Art of Neighboring", and one thing that God has placed on my heart is my
need to be deeply rooted where He has planted me. And how can I do that
if I am sitting on my fanny looking at Facebook? It feels as though I am
only giving half of myself to what God wants me to do, and the other half is
invested in seeing only glimpses of peoples lives. Basically, compare
going into the ice cream store to just looking through the window of the ice
cream store. In order to get the ice cream, I have to go in. So it
is with people. In order to build real relationships, I have to be fully
committed to building relationships, which is harder to do with the
distractions I allow into my life. Facebook also
6). acts as a smoke-and-mirror to what we believe.
We say we are appalled at Abortion, or the horrendous behavior of some of
our political people, or that crime that happened last week. I don't know
about you, but instead of sitting here sharing about how shocked I am at these
injustices, I would so much rather be out there DOING something. Perhaps
it is just me, but I find it easy to "Like and Share" something to
"show support" when in actuality, I am having no effect whatsoever in
helping the cause. I want to be someone who DOES something, who changes
the world, one person at a time. Helping one person at a time is a way to
do that. We are so deceived if we think that sharing a meme or posting a
controversial status update, or arguing with someone of a differing viewpoint
is going to amount to anything beneficial. I am not changing the world
-not even the Social Media world!- by simply sharing my opinions and beliefs.
In summation, God has instructed us -me- to go out
and do things to further His kingdom. Being a part of Facebook, and even
letting myself indulge in other perfectly innocent entertainment on a regular
basis has become a weight, a hindrance. I would rather focus on growing
closer to Jesus, letting Him mold my character into what He would like me to
be, and be there for the people God has placed around us than sit and let life
happen. I want to
live life, not just let life live me. And on another note, reading on
a daily basis is becoming a thing of the past; a very very valuable thing. Imagine all the books I could be reading, the
things I could be learning, with all that extra time? I would so much rather my children see me
constantly reading than staring at a screen.
And so, if anyone is interested in what Joel, Ransom and I
have been up to, I think that's awesome! I really enjoy blogging, so you
can follow me here. For our family in particular, there will be plenty of
baby photos. ;) You can also shoot me an email at j.hcropseyadventures@gmail.com; I'd be more than happy to
keep in touch!
