Of Bums, Books, and Other Adventures

Ugh, Valentine's Day.  Believe it or not, though married, I'm still not 100% sure how I feel about this "holiday", for a variety of reasons.  This year however I am very happy for the excuse to go on a date.  We haven't exactly gotten out much lately, it will be the first time since Joel's Birthday back in October!  What have we been doing this whole time?  Glad you asked.
Joel and I are beginning a wood-working project together.  But in order to do that,we have a few things we need to collect first.  Perhaps it's the Tom-boy in me, but I actually don't mind being around building equipment and a plethora of wood.  In fact, I think it's rather cool.  I am not the type to cry about my hubby bringing home more tools, and Home Depot is a favorite date-night option with my man.  Bring on the projects!
My cousin Pam and I co-hosted an Usborne Book Facebook party.  It went so well!  Ransom got a ton of free books, and he is enjoying them immensely!  He loves to crawl on over to his book-nook and have you read to him.  I actually counted nine books that he sat through, back-to-back.  And then he pulled out his "Say Moo?" book and asked me to read it a second time.  This kiddo loves to read, much to our delight!
Ransom has been teething up a storm.  He now has six teeth, and his seventh is almost in.  He certainly is not the best of teethers, so crankiness and clingy-ness abound.  Also diaper rash; I have worked with several children in my lifetime, but never have I seen rash so persistent on a little kid as with this one.  It has been a challenge for sure!
Otherwise, he has been enjoying his friend Ella, who is just a bit older than him.  It has been so fun watching them learn to play together!  My friend Paula and I get together often and hang-out, so do our kiddos.  Lots of fun is had by all!  Ransom will soon be walking, too.  He has been experimenting with letting go of things and standing on his own.
That makes me think so much of how it is as a Child of God; I cannot learn to stand and walk until I have let go of the things in my life that are holding me back.  I cannot live a fully God-led life until I let go and fully surrender every piece of my comfort-zone to Him.  Worship is not just something I do by lifting my voice with a singing congregation each week; it is in the way I live my life.  It is in sacrificial service to others.  It is in learning to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.  Praise God that He is there to help me up when I fall!  I love learning lessons from Littles.

May your flower vases be full,
Your box of chocolates over-flowing, and
your evening be romantic.

Birth Story

I don't know when it happened exactly, but recently Little Man has turned into this light sleeper that wakes up every time he falls asleep on someone and needs to be put down.  Now that he's finally down for a nap, I can find a few minutes to write.  I hope?! ....     Anyway, for those of you who are curious, here's how Ransom's birth story goes.  His due date was on April 13th, buuuuut this being my first pregnancy, we were expecting him to be plenty late.  So April 13th came and went, but real labor started that Saturday, the 16th.  Joel was convinced this was the real thing, but I wasn't.  Actually, hours of labor passed before I was convinced  our baby was really coming that night!     Joel was an incredible help, and we really had the best birth team ever.  Some of the things my midwife had me do surprised me.  She let me know early on that I COULD try to make myself as comfortable as possible through the...

Changes, Part 2

"If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time." ~Zig Ziglar "   What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith  but does not have works? Can that faith save him?     If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food,     and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?     So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." ~James 2:14-17   ....So, to continue my discourse from yesterday; here are a few more reasons I need to leave the world of social media and how I plan to spend my time.  Some of my solutions are more broad, I am still looking for ways to accomplish these goals. ***        5).I just finished a wonderful book called "The Art of Neighboring", and one thing that God has placed on my heart is my need to be deeply rooted where ...

Baby Crib, Hairstyles, and Other Shenanigans!

Time has indeed been flying!  Those of you on Faceboo k may have seen a recent update about Ransom turning 6 months old.  He did.  I blinked, and he's 20 lbs., has two teeth (Working on his third!), and almost, almost crawls!  I meant to do a blog update several weeks ago about his crib, but never got around to it.     We (Mostly Joel and Papa Cropsey) built his crib from a basic pattern we found on Pinterest.  Of course, it was altered some in the process, and we made it almost entirely out of two-by-four slats of birch wood.  That thing is solid as a rock!  We made it such that it is easily taken apart and re-assembled, for less transporting issues.  We chose to paint it in a Distressed style, gray being the base color and white for a white-washed-barn effect.  We are incredibly happy with how it turned out!  Also, we are in love with the thought of having an heirloom to pass down to our kids one day....
